In 2013 the Editor will be bringing out a CD entitled The
Fife Kalendar of Convicts, 1800-1900. This will be an index to the Fife High
Court trials (usually Perth Circuit Court) held by the National
Archives of Scotland (NAS) in their JC26 (trial papers) and AD14
(Precognitions) series; and also an index to the Jury and Summary Trials of
Cupar and Dunfermline Sheriff Courts, also held by the NAS, in their SC20
(Cupar) and SC21 (Dunfermline) series. It will also include records of lower
courts (Burgh, Police, Magistrate, and Justice of the Peace Courts) from
records held at St Andrews University Library and Fife Council Archives.Local
newspapers have also been consulted.Crimes covered include murder, culpable
homicide, rape, incest, and even one case of bestiality, but usually theft,
assault, breach of the peace, poaching, forgery, etc.
Over the years the Editor has tracked down the
births, marriages and deaths of many of these convicts, but he would
especially like to hear from descendants of the Fife Convict transportees so as
to learn of the later history of these men/women.
